ok so i was thinking of moving my rear number plate to the side of the car but i wanted it to look like it was ment to be there out of the factory.so i wanted to know if anyone had done it before and how it turned out.my plan was to cut the plate at the back like this
and then slide the whole plate up to one end.and then get that little piece of plate and plastic weld it to the other end like this.and then sand and re-paint.
i only made these photos in photoshop they arnt real. but i thought you would get a better understanding of what i mean. is this mod legal if i moved the little light on the bumper to go with the number plate?.any tips would be great
NOTE: this is not my car.

Bit rude to bump the topic just about 2 and a 1/5 hours after posting.
To answer your question, as it is a legal enquiry, it would be better to contact the QLD gov (where ever you pay your rego too) and ask them directly as what is the worst they can do, say no!
Personally, I do not feel there is anything wrong with it as the plate is still there and nothing is obstructing it. Just might require it closer to the left side as the speed cameras might miss the number plate if a mate is following close behind and would obscure it..

OK, did a quick search around and came across this:
quote: Road Safety (Vehicles) Regulations 1988 3-22/7/98 32 216. Method of displaying number plates (1) If, under regulation 215, two number plates must be fixed to a motor vehicle (other than a motor cycle or special vehicle referred to in clause 10 of Schedule 1)— (a) one of them must be securely fixed to the front of the motor vehicle so that the number on the plate is easily distinguishable at a distance of 20 metres from the front of the motor vehicle; and (b) the other must be securely fixed to the rear of the vehicle so that the number on the plate is easily distinguishable at a distance of 20 metres from the rear of the vehicle.
Got it from Road Safety (Vehicles) Regulations 1988 (It is a PDF file) I hope it helps.. Nothing about if it has to be centered or not allowed to be this, but still cheeck with VIC Roads and they will be able to tell you.. |
Cheers,
