hi guys again. i got a problem with my car. somtimes i start it and it ust takes 1 crank for the engine to start running bu somtimes its takes several turns of the engine for it to start up and somtimes when i parked my car pulled the key out and start the car up it makes that noise wen som1 turns the key wen there cars still running u know wat noise im talking bout. so my question is.. is it the starter motor? if not wat is it that is doing tht?

Starter motor, ignition switch, bent flywheel. I'd suggest dropping the gearbox out and having a look at the teeth that ring the flywheel, because it sounds like there might be a whole lot of crud in there, or maybe even some broken teeth.

Sorry it couldn't be better news.

As for how long it takes to start, mine is the same, but I'm not too worried about it, sometimes it kicks the first time I turn it over, sometimes the engine goes around three or four times then fires...the only time I will worry about it is if it doesn't crank of if it doesn't fire at all...other than that...it's a VN, they have a few quirks, but that's why we love them so much.

lol mouce thanx so bout the fly wheel part u talked bout r u talking bout the noise that it makes wen i start the car n makes a noise like the car is running?

generally u could just hit your starter motor with something, i used to do it to my car when it sh**t itself, then if it starts up after you hit it a couple of times then yeah new starter motor :D

sorry but that doesnt sound like your starter motor, usually i only works sometimes(until u hit it lol) then itll make the connection and turn over otherwise if it starts everytime its very unlikley its the starter motor

It's probably the starter motor not engaging the flywheel properly. Either that or it's not disengaging properly when you let go of the key. Either way...I think you'll need to drop your gearbox out and have a look.
