Mine does the same. No matter how much i top up or anything it always flows out and stays just below min level. If yours is like mine and never over heats(actually mine never goes above first bar) then i wouldnt worry to much about it. |

Depending on which engine you've got you may not have any problem at all.
In the S1 engines, the original coolant bottles 'minimum' or "Cold" line was about 1cm below the seam in the bottle. This was revised to be 1" above the seam in the S2 engines (not sure about the S1.5). Depending on if your coolant bottle has been replaced or not, you may not have the 'correct' marking on it.
@Joogie, mine never used to get over the first bar, even sitting in traffic with the a/c running on a 45 degree day, but then I flushed the cooling system, and realised that the coolant temperature sensor was coated in crap. Cleaned that off and now the gauge sits about half in traffic and about a 1/4 on the open road. Well worth cleaning the sensor next time you do a flush. Just to make sure it's actually reading properly.
As for the bottle 'running out', sorry Sweet, but I can't remember if you've got a S1 or an S2 setup, the S1 has only one coolant bottle (drivers side), the S2 has two bottles (one on each side), so did the S1.5. The important one is the drivers side one, as long as that's got fluid in it you're set, if that's the one that's running out then you've got a massive freaking leak somewhere and you'll need to find it and fix it. If it's the one on the passenger side then I wouldn't be too worried.
Something worth checking (if it's the passenger side tank that's empty) is that the overflow cap on the drivers side tank is not damaged, check the o-ring and all the hoses. |

Sorry SWEET, but if the fluid level is continually dropping, it HAS to be loosing coolant somewhere. It's a closed system, nothing in, nothing out (well...that's how it's meant to be).
On the bottle cap that has a hose running out of it, to go to the second bottle, there was an o-ring to seal around the base of that so that it sealed to the lid inside it (the one that actually screwed onto the bottle). Since you don't have a second bottle, I guess you don't have to worry about it.
That said, you'll need to find out which part of the system is leaking. It's possible that it's leaking and spraying straight onto a hot part and vanishing before it hits the ground. That's going to make it hard to find.
There's really two possibilities: a) you didn't bleed the system properly when you last did a flush, and the air is still working its way out, or b) there's a leak in there somewhere. Either one of those.
It's not possible that the bottle is just emptying on its own without there being a leak. |
