hi first of all wats with this commodores my last vn rocker cover was ticketing now my vp is ticking. everytime i start my car up wen its cold it really badly ticks where the rocker cover is wen its warm its still ticking but not as much. i checked my engine oil and its pretty black cuold it be cos of that or is it cos ther rockers r gone. most hopefully i think its cos its black and the oil is really old i think. the last driver of this car was a chick aswell and doesnt look like she knew much bout looking after her car as the engine was well dirty i had to steam clean the engine bay and underneath cos it was packed with oil luckily theres no oil leaks wen i steamed cleaned it at the wash bay. but my main concern is the roller rockers cuold they be stuffed cos its ticking both sides. thanx again and am i posting to much topics seems like im starting to annoy u guys with all my questions, im a chick full of questions lol b4dn xxxx
Could be injectors. Could be an exhaust manifold gasket leak. Could be tappets.
You could whack a slug of injector cleaner through it (cheap option) or get them cleaner properly (prefered option). That would pretty much rule out injectors if it clears up.
You could dump some lifter free in it and change the oil after 500km to a high quality oil thats the right viscosity for your engine- that may quiten the valve train / tappets if thats whats causing the problem.
You could get an exhaust shop to take a look at the exhaust manifold gasket- I think it cost less than $50 to have my extractor gasket replaced when mine went.
Theres other possibilites but those are some broad ones and easy ones that may help.
guys all vn- vp 6's not 2 sure about the 8's , have a tick coming from the injetors and the rocker covers! the injectors have a slight tick the louder it is from your injectors means its time 4 a good clean! as 4 your rocker covers the ticking u hear when its cold is the oil rising to the tappets, if u notice the sounds does get quieter!! thats y with all cars.. doesnt matter what it is, it is always a good idea 2 let the engine run 4 30 secs or so especialy when its cold!
