Cars starting to look the part now. Its time for some more power... i got a few basics done like exhaust, CAI, filter, suspension. My question is what is best bang for buck? extractors, roller rockers, shift kit(damn auto!), chip..what else??? Not looking at going down forced induction, yet. And cant afford to put a manual in.
Oh and another thing iv got performance exhaust, if i get extractors it will make it sound alot louder? I really dont want that because in the small town im in cops tail me enough! so silencer???
cheers

Variable exhaust systems, silencers, adjustable gates, slides or valves in the exhaust system are strictly ILLEGAL. Sorry.
Extractors shouldn't make it illegally loud though, if you're worried about it, get it tested afterwards, you might need to change the muffler to make it a bit quieter. Remember a performance exhaust doesn't have to be loud, it is actually possible to get a performance exhaust that is just as quiet as the stock exhaust.
The shift kit would probably make things a bit nicer, and will be a bit cheaper. A stage 1 makes it a bit sharper, stage 2 makes it really snap into gear. |

Bummer about the silencer! Im not worried about it being illegally loud, im just not looking to attract to much attention(well any more). You say changing the muffler could quieten it, is this by getting a bigger one or something? Obviously i want it done with no loss of power...
And shift kit, this is my daily driver so i still want it to be smooth for the long trips to perth and so on, so whats best stage one or two? And i know you have a manual but any ideas of arounda bout cost? cheers |

stage 2 is around $180 and usually only snaps hard if youve got your foot planted... I'm getting one fitted on my sh1tbox daily driver |

For the exhaust you're best bet is to go and see a proper exhaust shop. They'll be able to suggest (and supply) a muffler that should keep you quiet enough without killing your power. |

I would go for the extractors, rockers, then 3.75's in your diff you should be happy with that for a while :) |

With the scoop mouce should be able to shed some light on the subject but from what i have seen/heard as long as it does not exceed a certain height, you either dont touch the bonnet reinforcing or get it properly engineered and complienced and is properly secured to the bonnet you should not have a problem. Dont quote me on this though it is just what i have seen/heard as i said mouce would probably know a little more |
What's the difference between understeer and oversteer? Understeer is when the driver is scared. Oversteer is when the passenger is scared. |

Cheers LOLO, I couldn't be bothered finding the link to VSI8.
There's a whole range of specs that it must conform to, and as mentioned previously, don't think about hacking into any of the frame work of the bonnet. The first cop to pull you over will lube you up and take you for all you've got. |

Right-click the link and select "Save Target As" or "Save Link As" whichever of the two you happen to see. Pop the document on your desktop and open it from there. The document works, I just checked it (works under Windows and Linux, I don't use Rotten Fruit computers).

On my car I got the lukey 2.5' from the cat back. Not only does my VN now kcik down harder it also has greatly improved the fuel economy :D with a hint of a sound of a V8 :D
The part was $160 from a auto stockists. The exausht places wanted to much money and while ya at it. It would be worth while to replace the cat converter and get some gaskets too! |

i prefer a manual over an auto, unless u have forced induction then loss of traction is not fun at the worst of times(when cops are around), like my supercharged vn just loses itself everywhere, so i suggest a stage 2 shift kit, exhaust, extractors(my opinion is that genie's are SH!T), cai, either 3.75 diff or (with plans for forced induction) 3.9 differentials.........also with the extractors itll give a touch louder exhaust and better sound, performance and on slow days fuel economy |

No forced induction atm only plan to have car another year or two so enough power for a little bit of fun with out completly breaking the bank is in oder haha. All this is gonna have to wait though coz i have bought a new toy and been spending all my money and time building it. cheers |
