hi as som of u guys know i had a write off on me car not long ago. well the guy came and had an asesment and he said it was a total lost and told me he'll tell them to pay me off $2,100 but he also went to the wreckers to look for a highest price the'll buy the car for which is $250 so there gonna deduct $250 from the $2,200 leaving me with $1,850 which i think is ok. now that they have let me keep the car i was just wondering does a vn engiine and transmission fit right in to a vr if i get everything from the vn into the vr is it possible is it easy and anything else need changing? the cars not mine its going into my mums car. once the guy that hit me pays his excess ill b getting my cheque:) once i get that ill b looking for a vn so if any1's planning on selling there vn let me know

only the late vr's came with the ecotec, so it should be a neat swap, as long as you can find out where all of the wires go, as the looms are pretty similar, why would you wanna swap the motor over anyway is the one in the vr stuffed??? |

Yeah James Mongan is right. only the later model Vr's had an ecotec, and if your vr isn't then is should be no major hassels. Also i think don't quote me on this but it should go straight onto the existing trans so all you need is the engine. That is if the trans is ok but i think you have said something bout it before but i thought it was just the engine... But i Don't know much about the VR just persuming
And as for getting your new car if you want to try something a bit unusal look on ebay, they might have some in your area and they are normally pritty good as it gives more of a discription and a pic than in the papers. But make sure you can see the car and give it a once over. Maybe you could always pay him cash then and there for cheep. Just a suggestion. |

hey I got my project car off ebay and it came with lots of goodies ie; LSD, vn ss seats etc for only 1 grand however you can get stock ones for around $500-800 and if you cant be bothered doing the RWC work, one with RWC and rego should only cost you around $1500. but yeah if you do go down that path, make sure you check the car out BEFORE bidding on it |

I am hearing this right arnt I ??? u want to put a vn engine in a vr ???? not being rude but what 4?? I wouldnt bother with the engine swap 2 the vr (waste of time ) considering u could just upgrade and put a ecotec i your mums vr !! the reason I say dont bother is most vn engine have done around 200.000 km -300.000km some have even done 450.000km! in other words u will be hard pressed getting a engine that has 100'ooo km on the clok and if u do be prepared 2 pay 4 the suker...
I would proberly go with lolo's idea and hunt around for a nice vn ... u can get a very nice runnin vn 4 $2'500 with semi low km's (if u lucky) ... dont get me wrong I'm not takin the micky but it realy sounds like a big waste of time putting a vn engine in a vr when u could put a ecotec in a vn????? ;)

yeh but mayb cos i dont have cash to fix my mums car as the car is nearly dying and i rather much prefer the car driving in the future than dying. if i was to do up my mums vr then thats a different story but no i just want her to still b able to run the car without it over heating and driving like crap |

$500 isn't going to go along way with car audio gear. It's a good head unit, a stacker and maybe a set of speakers (or two if you get lower quality ones).
I'd be sliding around in the VP as it is for a while, until you can work out where the 'weakest' spot is. If it's handling like a boat, put the $500 into some shocks/struts. If it's just having traction issues, new rear tyres...if it's got good rubber and still slipping, then look at the diff (or the driver ). If it's handling okay, and got enough traction to get you from stopped to fast then back to stopped safely, have a look at the engine, work the intake system perhaps?
You want a better exhaust note? Most exhaust places should be able to set you up with a nice catback system for about $250. Leaving $250 to throw at a washable panel filter and a cold air intake, with enough left to fill the tank a couple of times. With a new (to you) car, that'd be what I recommend.
LOL...there's always insurance, could pay that. |
