lol biggest legal engine is probably a gen3 LS1 but hey that aint fair lol im just using a 3.8l buick, but hey suit yourself, if you've won the lotto and wanna spend 150 grand on setting up a mean LS1 turbo and another 50 on getting some sort of traction to pul 7's be my guest... would love to see such a combo, but then again I aint gonna be taking part in that race.... |

Any engine would be legal so long as you can get an engineers certificate for ALL of the mods you need to do to fit it, and can get it certified for street use ;)
Anyone thought about a V12 or even a W15 in a VN? Sure, you'd need to do some serious lengthening of the engine, but it'd come up a treat. Either that or one of the BMW supercharged V8 engines mmm...
If you want to break the bank that would be the way I'd be going... |

Not without going through MASSIVE amounts of paperwork to show that it meets emissions standards.
It's possible if you've got enough money. It's possible to drop carby fed engines into the VN, BUT...you need full engineers certificates, emissions statements and a whole lot of other paperwork. It's not really worth it. |

For it to be used on a track it still has to pass the scrutineers. If it's street legal it's a step in the right direction, but it's no certainty.
Keep in mind though that there are certain safety regulations that must be adhered to, regardless of if it's a track car or a street car. Actually...normally it's harder to get a car certified for track use than street use. |

If you just want to use if for track then i depends a lot on how fast it goes. for slower 1/4 mile times they just want no oil leaks and an overflow bottle, the requirements gradually increase till you start to beat the 10 sec mark when they get very serious and you need things like full harness, roll cage, even a chute. different tracks have different rules. but they are vastly different from street legal. |

lolo, just so you know you'll need more than low 10's/high 9's to get the record. I've got a mate currently in the process of building a turbo 3.8 for his vn. Car will be completely street legal, and he is aiming for mid - low 8's! Mind you he will be spending well upwards of $50k on the engine/tranny alone, and is looking at the 1000hp mark. Still up for a race? Might take him a bit of time though, he has been going for about 9 months now, and is only 3/4 through the engine/tranny build. Block has come from America, along with a few other parts for it. Will probably end up similar to this in the end: http://www.gmhightechperformance.com/features/htp_0403_1987_buick_grand_national_feature/ |

hell, mines a circuit car remember, no 5 second passes for me... this is a 20 grand car not a 200 grand car lol and while the guy building the engine is keen to show the rigoli brothers a thing or two I'd be stoked with an 11 second car.... and theres no way in hell anyone here or anywhere in a VN is gonna be able to keep up with it on phillip island.... why does a lighthearted competition have to turn into something like this??? obviously if I was chequebook racing and concentating on drags as my top priority, the experience and contacts alone would leave y'all in the dust.... but thats not what it is.... I'm chucking a turbo and 20 grand at a clapped out VN and hoping for the best |
