Wednesday at 4:15am WA time, I became a dad for the first time. Most of you with kids had at least 7 months' warning for this kind of thing, but neither my loving girlfriend nor I had any clue until those "gallstones" turned out to be labour pains. I literally had only 6 hours' notice of fatherhood.
Before you call us both ignorant for not noticing, there were other medical issues that could hide a pregnancy. All the doctors and midwives have told us that it's very common to have a concealed pregnancy, one even told her personal story of how it happened to her. My girlfriend didn't have a belly. She wasn't puking her guts up all the time. She had little to no mood swings. She was still working full time as a chef, and this kid did not even kick once. It was only when I heard his heartbeat that it reinforced the fact that this was real.
I already have some plans for his future. For example, there's no way I'm just going to buy him a car. He's going to help me build his. It might be something like a VZ Commodore, or if I had the chance, what would be a vintage VN Commodore. I estimate that I have at least 12 years to infect him with my love of Holdens before he can make up his own mind. One thing is for sure, I'll disown him if he buys a ricer lol. I'm considering doing the same when he gets his first "full sized" pushbike; let him choose the colour scheme, the gearing, and put one together from secondhand parts rather than just buy something new that he won't appreciate.

lol got a mate that the exact same thing happened. Although the "gallstones" was just a case of the stomach bug, although the question was asked the first day they went in "are you sure you are not pregnant??"

| IT took the ER at Royal Perth Hospital a while to twig that she was pregnant, as they're not specialists in pregnancy and womens' health. Royal Perth usually deals with things like car crashes, and other emergency medical problems. You should have seen their relief when she was loaded into the ambulance and taken to King Edward Memorial Hospital, the main maternity hospital in Perth. While they wished her well, because we didn't know whether he was full term, or if there were any other complications, they were glad to see her go lol. My VN is not the designated kid shuttle, her '07 VW Golf gets lumbered with that job because 1. we have only one baby seat and 2. I have the cargo space to transport almost anything, and that must remain free at the moment. |

| Still have the early stage of this. He's very healthy, and very strong for his age, but already showing signs of being alert. Just hoping I can share my passion for cars with him. |
