Guys (and I hope this is in the right forum!)- driving home tonight, cruising at about 90km/h after a fairly rapid acceleration, my VN Calais (5litre) started to feel as though it was surging and the engine light of doom came on. This lasted no more than 15seconds in total.

I nursed it home and ran the self diagnosis to find error code 33- MAP sensor too high, possible vacuum leak to sensor or faulty sensor. I did the test as per the trusty Gregories and it appears to be an intermittant fault.

I've checked everything hanging off the MAP sensor and all appears well.

Three questions: what else should I check in relation to this problem? Is a feeling of a loss of power or a sense of surging typical of this problem? And finally, how much for a new one if it comes to that?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Okay, the obvious place to start is to wipe the error codes and see if it comes up again.

Check the electrical connection and the vac hose connection to the MAP sensor, check all the gaskets you can on the air intake system.

There is a chance that there's no problem at all. http://www.vncommodore.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=450

Check out the lines about code 33. If by some chance you managed to exceed 80kPa for more than 15 seconds, then it would have lit up like a christmas tree. It's not impossible to do.
