Hi all..can someone please explain the working of a Coil pack. Mine sort of went Dodgy, so i got one from the wreckers, it was the whole pack. ie, Top plastic and bottom metal....i replaced the whole as i thought that would be the done thing.

so that one got a crack ( might have already been there....most likely).

got an ACA coil pack today from Autopro....and its only the top part??

i understand what they do...and i'm guessing the top will fail more often, but why isn't it made as a one peice?

and is there a specific way to put it on...there is no cylinder numbers on it..... like the one in car now.

and those screws that are not Allen Key or Phillips head..but star shaped?.is that Electricians having a laugh.

cheers..

First thing I would recommend if you are having coil pack issues (being a series one by the sounds of it) is to throw the complete setup over your shoulder (DFI module ie Metal bit and coil pack) and upgrade to a series 2 unit which will have 3 individual coil packs on top. Much better system and not as prone to failure.
The screws you talk of are are actually TORX screws and you can pickup a cheap set of drivers from supercheap or such store that will do the job.
From what I can gather when installing it can go either way just make sure that the wires you pull off the underside of the coil pack go back into the exact position they came from on the old coil pack. Also make sure you put the original gasket between the coil pack and the DFI module back in.

Did you have fault codes present when the faults occured??

What's the difference between understeer and oversteer?
Understeer is when the driver is scared.
Oversteer is when the passenger is scared.

I agree - i have a series 1 motor in an 89 VN - I replaced the old "chocolate block" pack with the series 2 pack - that pack continued to be used in many commodore models afterward. It made heaps of difference to the running of my car, and it drops straight in.
