On warmer days, does the needle "flap" up and down? There's a common fault with the VN's instrument cluster. Instead of a flat printed circuit board like many other cars, VNs have this stiff that looks like the ribbon cable from inside a hard drive. Over time, tiny fractures show up in said ribbons. It can easily be fixed by and good instrument shop, and ask them to check your speedo gear while they're at it. The VN speedo doesn't have a cable drive either; an alelctronic sensor on the transmission sends a signal to the speedo, and a small electric motor drives the speedo and odometer. The main drive gear for this is plastic, and if it goes, you have no odometer. |
