There is a noticeable amount of oil coming into the throttle body from the rocker cover venting pipe. I'm not sure if there is a valve or filter in the pipe that needs attention or is it just normal.
What can i do?

| well i got a little excited and started pulling things apart. as it turns out there is no valve in there at all just a rubber grommet that has gone brittle with heat and age and breaks when you try to take it off. But i still don't see what will stop oil from travelling through the pipe into the throttle body. |

| When you take the oil fill cap off while the engine is running do you get a rush of air coming out?? |
What's the difference between understeer and oversteer? Understeer is when the driver is scared. Oversteer is when the passenger is scared. |

No.
No broken gaskett on t/b. What is the valley cover?
There is a half inch metal pipe coming out the top of the right rocker cover. It has a right hand elbow in it the it goes to a rubber elbow that joins onto the under side of the t/b. It is separate to the iacv.
It looks like it is meant to be that way. but oil is working its way along the pipe into the t/b |

the valley cover is the thing in the middle of your rocker covers!T he thing with 3800 written on it! How much oil is getting in ? have a look at your carbon canister, its a blak canister with three hose running from it chek 2 c if its not blked and that there is still airflow though the lines!

so the "valley cover" is the inlet manifold?
The breather pipe is lined with oil and the whole inside of my t/b was covered in oil too. it is not dripping off but it is quite noticeable. There seems to be enough flow through my carbon canister...what happens if there isn't?
On my old HG, the breather pipe just had a little filter sitting on it the let the air vent into the atmosphere. Then there was another engine i had that had a little ball bearing check valve that would release any pressure in the engine. but this breather doesn't seem to have anything to stop oil from travelling along it into my t/b

Clean out your t/b and see just how much builds up and how quickly. When I first got my car the inside of the t/b was black, a quick clean (there's a write up on how to do it in the 'how-to' section) and it's a LOT better now.
If the oil is 'foaming' because of water in it (god help you if it is) it might 'spray' into the breather pipe. But as far as I know there is nothing wrong with a LITTLE bit of oil getting into the t/b.
If the oil is over full then it could be causing problems too.
I still say that you should clean the t/b and see how quickly it builds up again. |

Thanks mouce. I did clean it out a few months ago and it was because of the build up since then that i was worried.
I have replaced the breather pipe with an old style filter that vents to the atmosphere....(shhhh, don't tell the cops). I just didn't like that fact that my t/b got so dirty within the 8 months or so since it was cleaned last.
I cleaned the t/b again and adjusted the auto kickdown cable and things are running much smoother agian.
PS: oil level is spot on full marker.
