If your brake booster has failed, in theory your brakes should feel "wooden;" In other words, there's no give in the pedal. Before you start unbolting anything, check the vacuum hose that goes somewhere onto the intake manifold. If it is loose/perished, or just plain leaking, this will affect your brakes.
A standard VN brake booster is fine on an S Pack; there shouldn't be any difference at all. There might have been some difference between V8 and V6, but even that would be small.
All the vacuum booster does, is work like power steering for brakes. It just takes less effort to work the brake pedal. Once you've checked the vacuum hose and know it's fine, let the car idle, and listen around it. If it's badly knackered, you should hear the hiss of a vacuum leak somewhere.
Also, just make absolutely sure there are no fluid leaks in your brakes, from the master cylinders to the calipers on the wheels. Just to be absolutely sure. |
