I replaced my fron callipers last weekend and after driving for a while my brakes completely failed. No problem still had gears and hand brake fortunately worked. I found that I'd left one of the copper washers off and it finally gave up. I still had full fluid in reservoirs so I only lost a minute amount of fluid. I replaced the washers and bled that brake. Pedal is good.

What I can't work out is why I had no brakes at all when it failed. I should still have had rear brakes. The master cylinder is supposed to protect you in case one end fails but it didnt. Does anyone have any experience with this kind of failure and can assist me with the most likely cause before I go too far dismantling my complete brake system please.

You said after driving for a while they failed. Does this mean that they were working after you completed doing the calipers??

What's the difference between understeer and oversteer?
Understeer is when the driver is scared.
Oversteer is when the passenger is scared.

Yes. But because I'd left out one of the coper washer off of the brake hose attachment between the calliper and the square block on the end of the hose.
I'd been out test driving it and hammering the brakes occasionally to ensure they were god and finally one hard press of the pedal then next press it went straight to the floor. No stopping power at all. THere was the obvious smalll amount of brake fluid on the sides of the tyre. After that I fixed the leak by buying new washers. I wm just very concerned that the fail safe didn't work. Either the differential pressure piston in the master cylinder may be sticky or some other weird thing with the rear brakes. I have yet to jack up the rear to see if I can spin the wheels with brake pedal pressed. I know theres no adjustment as rear are dicks so the only other possability is both rear brake hoses are blocked (unlikely). I was just optimistic someone may have a clue that I might be unaware of. I dont yet want to waste time replacing the master cylinder kit if I can avoid it.

the only thing I can think of is the fluid hadnt moved right through the system after the failure!

I had driven about 60km through heavy traffic with plenty of braking. The brakes felt good. THe booster is fine and the pedal pressure was normal which precludes air in lines or booster.
